Ya. We changed it.
It's bigger. (But better!)
Here it is with the new changes.

A basic little rundown:
There is a man door in our garage that goes out to our backyard. This is the side that is closest to our kids' play set and the garden and compost bins.
Our house was built with the kitchen in the front and the bedrooms in the back. In order for me to look into the backyard, I have to go into one of the bedrooms, which is not usually a big deal, but a little annoying.
So the plan is to bring the man door inside to make it a windowed door into the backyard from that side of our house. The other bonus is that we can come in from outside into a mud room. Next to the door will be another window to maximize backyard visibility and natural light. Under the window will be my counter height work station. I moved the freezer from that location to the wall next to the stacked washer/dryer so that we could have a window there.
The door that currently comes into our kitchen from the garage will be framed in and we'll gain an extra 3.5' of counter/cabinet space. That is a major score!
The house will now be accessed by a door that goes into the mud/laundry room near the back side of the garage.
We have a little jog in the wall so that we have enough space to walk around the front of our van. We have a laser parking guide so that our van is as close to the vehicle garage door as possible, so that we maximize the space in front.
The other blue rectangle on the wall closer to the toilet is going to be shelving for laundry baskets, a counter top, and a hanging rod.
And then of course the pantry shelves, which will include a counter height shelf with outlets for appliances.
It's funny how this project keeps getting bigger. Well, Jon doesn't think it's that funny. And I think it is awesome!
We've considered new houses, but it's really hard to justify the cost. Yes, we do have to spend a chunk to get our house to where we want it, but we really like where we live. We love our yard. I love the idea of my kids spending their childhood all in one place.
We don't have really big and open spaces like we'd get with a new house, but we have 6 good sized rooms and 2800 square feet. I feel that the things we have/will do will increase not only my house's value to me personally, but will increase the actual value. That kind of tends to happen when you add a bathroom and garage and a mud room(aka square feet), and finish a yard. :)
Our house started out with 1.5 bathrooms, an unfinished basement, no fence and a dirt not super useable yard, a car port, and a small (but new) and blah colored kitchen.
We've come a long way in 4 years (in July).
I can't wait to get some of our bigger projects done since they are the ones that are going to make the biggest difference for this little house.
